On 19th September 2023, ASEANAPOL Secretariat participated in the Dialogue on Effective Multilateral Policing Architecture Against Global Threats – Working Group On Strategic Aspects of the Global Policing Architecture, Global Policing Goals Review Process, which was initiated by the Executive Directorate for Partnership and Planning of INTERPOL (EDPP) and attended virtually by ACP Dr. Bakri Zainal Abidin (Director for Police Services of ASEANAPOL Secretariat) and ASP Engku Nurul ‘Aini Engku Malek (Plans and Programmes Officer II of ASEANAPOL Secretariat).
This Working Group Dialogue was meant to get the final review prior to the formal session of the 7th Edition of the Dialogue in UAE at the end of October 2023. The virtual meeting was started with the opening remarks by Darrin Jones, Executive Director for Partnerships and Planning, INTERPOL, then followed with the open discussion on the Revised GPGs with the active participation from all Dialogue member entities from AFRIPOL, AIMC, AMERIPOL, CARICOM IMPACS, ECO, EUROPOL, FRONTEX, GCCPOL, UNODC, and SCO RATS.
The meeting highlighted that the GPGs, each focusing on a crime-area or a global threat, are underpinned by cross-cutting foundational themes, each impacting the operationalization of the GPGs. These themes include: Good governance, rule of law and respect for human rights, Collaboration and partnerships, Data and information digitalization, and Financial crime as an enabler.
Furthermore, participants have shared their review and consultation in order to support the INTERPOL Global Policing Goals (INTERPOL GPGs) GPGs. All the sharing, inputs, and suggestions from the stakeholders and participants have been noted and managed by the EDPP and are to be reviewed to support the next Edition of the Dialogue which was scheduled for the 25th to 26th October 2023 in Abu Dhabi hosted by GCCPOL.
