THE 30TH JOINT ASEAN SENIOR POLICE OFFICERS COURSE (JASPOC) SIEM REAP, CAMBODIA, 09 – 11 August 2023

The 30th Joint ASEAN Senior Police Officers Course (JASPOC) was successfully organized and hosted by the Cambodian National Police (CNP) at the Regency Angkor Hotel, Siem Reap Province, Cambodia from 9 – 11 August 2023, with the theme “Strengthening cooperation and Sharing Information among ASEANAPOL in response to new trends of emerging transnational crimes”.
This event was attended by the delegations of the respective ASEANAPOL Member Countries namely the Indonesian National Police, Lao Police Force, Myanmar Police Force, Philippines National Police, Singapore Police Force, Royal Thai Police, and Vietnam Office of Investigation Police Agency, while the ASEANAPOL Secretariat (AS) was represented by Pol. Brig. Gen. Zaw Lin Tun, the Executive Director (ED) and ASP Engku Nurul ‘Aini Engku Malek, Plans and Programmes Officer II.
During the welcoming remarks, Pol. Brig. Gen. YOU BOREN, Head of INTERPOL / NCB Phnom Penh, expressed his sincere gratitude to all of AMCs delegates who always provide support and engagement in the meeting which CNP hosted in 2022 and 2023. He also extended his heartfelt appreciation to the colleagues of AMCs who attended the last ADSTC, ATCM, and APFSN, which yielded favorable outcomes to be included in the agenda of the upcoming ASEANAPOL Conference in Lao.
Pol. Brig. Gen. Zaw Lin Tun, the Executive Director of the ASEANAPOL Secretariat, was honored to deliver the keynote speech at the event which he emphasized the importance of our joint efforts in combating transnational crime, drug trafficking, human trafficking, and other pressing issues that cross national boundaries. The JASPOC will provide a platform to explore these topics and enhance the comprehension of our shared duties as protectors of peace and security in the ASEAN region.
Meanwhile, the Opening Ceremony was graced by the H.E. Pol. Lt. Gen. CHEA Peou, Deputy Commissioner General, Cambodian National Police where he emphasized to the delegates to share not only best practices and lessons learned, but also confidential or opened information, to enable closer, stronger cooperation and unity among the ASEAN national police forces to reach our theme “together we keep the region safe”.
JASPOC was established by the Chiefs of Police with the aim of promoting collaboration, knowledge-sharing, and understanding among the police forces within ASEAN. Through organizing courses, JASPOC has successfully equipped police personnel with diverse skills and knowledge, resulting in the strengthening of networks and bonds between course participants.
Over the course of three intensive days, participants explored three prevalent forms of criminal activity that afflict society on a daily basis: drug trafficking, human trafficking, and cybercrime. The course featured expert speakers from the Cambodian National Police, Australian Federal Police, Singapore Police Force, and the Homeland Security Investigation (HSI), U.S. Embassy in Phnom Penh.
The 30th JASPOC has concluded successfully, and it is imperative that all participants shared and discussed the valuable knowledge they have acquired. The Secretariat office remains committed to supporting member countries and strongly urges AMCs to maintain their collaboration in combating Transnational Organized Crimes. Together, we can effectively address related issues in our region and promote safety.
