POLICE SCIENCE CONGRESS IN SINGAPORE ON 8-9 JUNE 2023

INTERPOL celebrates its centenary in 2023 and has lined up celebratory activities throughout the year. To mark this occasion, the Police Science Congress was held alongside the 18th INTERPOL Annual Heads of National Central Bureau Conference at the Marina Bay Sands, Singapore on 8-9 June 2023. The theme for the Police Science Congress is “Trust-based Policing In a Digital Age”. it aimed to address various ongoing issues faced by law enforcement agencies, focusing on some of the challenges brought by the rapidly evolving technological landscape. Four topics revolving the main theme included:

 

A. Responsible use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in Law Enforcement;

B. Metaverse: New Frontier of Policing; 

C. Towards an Effective Future Multilateral Policing Architecture; and

D. Bridging Trust Deficit in the Digital Age.

Police Brigadier General Zaw Lin Tun, Executive Director, ASEANAPOLtook part of the panel on “Towards an Effective Future Multilateral Policing Architecture: The role of the Global Policing Goals and the Global Data Sharing Model”. This panel builds up on the outcomes of the 6th Edition of the “INTERPOL Dialogue on an Effective Multilateral Policing Architecture against Global Threats”, held at the United Nations Headquarters, New York, December 2022, as well as the relevant fruitful discussions held and Recommendations adopted at INTERPOL Regional Conferences held so far throughout this year. 

 

ASEANAPOL has been actively contributing to the progress achieved on the issues of this panel (i.e. the review of the Global Policing Goals and the identification of common principles for global data sharing), and that within the framework of the meetings of the Dialogue’s Working Groups on the Strategic and Operational Aspects of the Global Policing Architecture.  This panel provided a global perspective on these topics in support of the global law enforcement community.
